Welcome to the Quilt Cupboard - Overflowing with Tips, Tools & Tidbits

This page is where you can come for ideas and information. Our Cupboard is like that drawer, shelf, or bin, where you collect odds and ends that you plan to get to some day in your "spare time". We will give a tips, talk about a favorite tool and share with you tidbits we've learned from our Grandparents, parents, and children. Hopefully, you will get great ideas that might come in handy for your next project. In the process you may get to know us alittle better as we post things that we are working on or not, because our kids have lives instead of us. Stay tuned this could be very interesting.

Where did you get those buttons?

We have been asked where we got the buttons on our Summer and Fall Banners. Well, we made them from polymer clay and here are the directions:

Watermelon Seed Buttons (for Summer Banner pattern)

Directions:
Work a 1/2" ball of black polymer clay until it is soft and pliable
Roll into a 1/4" cylinder
Divide cylinder into 12 equal pieces
Form each piecd into a teardrop shape
Use a toothpick to "drill" two holes into each seed
Bake clay according to directions on package
When cooled, coat with urethane or clear nail polish but be sure to keep the holes clear.

Acorn Buttons (for Fall Banner pattern)

Directions for One Acorn - Four needed
Work 1/4" to 1/2" ball of brown polymer clay until it is soft and pliable
Flatten into a circle and squeeze a tiny point at the bottom
Work 1/4" to 1/2" ball of tan polymer clay until it is soft and pliable
Flatten into an oval shape
Overlap and press tan oval onto top of brown circle
Pull tan clay to form a tiny stem in the middle top & "texture" the top using a toothpick to make tiny indents
Use the toothpick to "drill" two holes into acorn
Bake clay, using directions on package
